Spring Time Ideas to Freshen Up Your Home

Spring is around the corner!  Though, in South Florida it can be difficult to differentiate the seasons, as it always seems to be warm. Spring is a good time to get some things done around the house, both inside and out, to prepare yourself for summer.

Check your Pool Timer:

When the Sun is out in full swing it is important to run your pool pump longer.  The chlorine in your pool will evaporate quicker, algae will grow at a faster pace, and your pool water will seemly disappear on those hot rainless days.  Running your pump longer will help you maintain the crystal clear water, control algae growth, and if you have a salt water pool keep your salt/chlorine balance at optimum levels.

Plant Flowers:

Now that it is Spring/Summer it is a great time to plant some seasonal flowers.  Everyone loves blooming plants that brighten up your home.  It will help immensely with your curb appeal and your neighbors will be jealous of the beautiful plantings.  At the same time, it is a great time to lay a new layer of mulch in your beds.  Mulch should be replaced at least once a year to keep the color and benefit of it.  Mulch will reduce the amount of water that is needed to keep your plants healthy and strong.

Paint your Door:

Sometimes the simplest upgrades make the biggest impact.  Painting your door is an inexpensive way of changing the look of your home.  Pick a color that goes well with your exterior paint color, but also allows your door to “POP”.  Colors that have always been popular include red, yellow, white, and a dark shipyard blue.

Adjust your Mower:

The grass is going to start growing a lot faster with the seasonal rains that South Florida gets in the Spring and Summer time.  This allows you to cut your grass shorter then in the Fall and Winter months.  Doing this will help your grass stay disease free, strengthen the grasses roots, and keep your yard looking well manicured.

Weed and Feed:

No one likes weeds in their yard.  They grow faster then the grass and can quickly take it over.  Applying a Spring time weed and feed will increase the nitrogen level in your soil helping your grass “green” up for the season and the weed application will keep those pesty weeds from taking over that beautiful yard.

Power Wash:

Another easy way to beautify your home is to power wash it.  Removing the grime that has built up over the winter months will bring out the color in your home.  Think about power washing your sidewalks, driveway and patio. Many times Winter causes a mildew growth (that black looking hew).

AC Work:

Have your air conditioner checked. No one likes to be without AC in the summer.  As the temperature rises, your AC needs to work harder to keep your home cool.  Have your coils cleaned, make sure there are no leaks in your air vents, and have them look for any problems that could arise during the height of the season.

If you are thinking about selling your Fort Lauderdale Home or any home in the South Florida market it is important to have your house looking gorgeous.
